2022 IGA 9-Hole Superintendent Award Winner - Scott Rohlfsen of Jesup Golf & Country Club

On Friday, October 28, the IGA Board of Directors named recipients of the 2022 Annual Awards in six categories. We are pleased to announce this year’s honorees.

9-Hole Superintendent – Scott Rohlfsen of Jesup Golf & Country Club
Scott Rohlfsen of Jesup Golf & Country Club is this year’s IGA 9-Hole Superintendent of the Year.

But truth be told, Rholfson takes care of more than just the nine holes at Jesup G&CC. Rholfson also keeps an eye on things at Maple Hills Country Club, Willow Run Country Club, Vinton Country Club and Dysart Country Club, while still providing top notch turf surfaces in Jesup.

“Scott and his crew have quickly gotten the course back open and in pristine condition,” member Shawn Even said. “When traveling to play at other courses and people ask where you’re from; we’re proud to say Jesup. Many times, members from other courses have noted that Scott is the Superintendent at Jesup and how much they love playing our course. You can truly tell Scott loves what he does.”

The Jesup G&CC Board of Directors had similar things to say regarding Rholfsen’s efforts. According to the board at Jesup G&CC, Rholfson has been vital to the success and smooth operation of the Jesup Golf & Country Club for many years now. His vast horticultural knowledge and preventative maintenance schedule has kept our course free from major diseases and minimized the unnecessary loss of trees.

One project in particular of note that Rholfsen spearheaded was adding more tee markers and increasing the size of the tee boxes to accommodate all levels of golfers and has also improved the visual and playing aspects of the course by edging all bunkers and re-defining penalty areas.

“Scott was able to bring our course back to life and it looks better than ever,” Chad Schmadeke on behalf of Vinton Country Club said. “In spite of the city more than doubling our water rates, Scott was able to do this while adjusting our water use to keep us financially stable. He has shared equipment with us when ours breaks down, and he finds us needed equipment through industry contacts.”

Scott’s attention to detail and dedication to his craft are unmatched and the members of the clubs he cares for know just how lucky they are to have him.

2022 Womens League

Rumors are a stirring and they are true. The women’s league has some very important dates coming up you should put on your calendar to make sure you don’t miss out on this great opportunity for league play.

  • League meeting - May 17th 5:30 PM - Jesup Golf Course Clubhouse. Those interested in playing are highly encouraged to attend this meeting where the great and powerful Misty Knutson will cover the format, confirm teams and cover the scheduled start and finish dates of league. This is a good time to hear any new proposed rule changes, or suggest some of your own.

  • Sign Up Deadline - May 24th. We will take teams up to this date at which time the schedule will be set and communicated out

  • Schedule Release - May 31st. Finalized schedule will be sent out to all members and subs.

  • First Night of League - June 7th. This is a proposed date based on past years. Getting started on time makes sure league doesn’t run longer than expected to avoid schedule conflicts.

2022 Mens League

The weather is looking better every day and we are nearing the time of year where mens league starts. This league will start on May 2nd assuming there aren’t any changes to the high school golf schedules. There will be a meeting at the country club on April 18th at 6:00 PM to get anything ironed out and is also a good time for those who are interested to come out and get signed up. If you have any questions feel free to email the board and we will get them answered as efficiently as possible.

Course Etiquette

Friendly reminder that with the start of our men’s and women’s (June 1) leagues the course will be busy Monday and Tuesday evenings. The course is still open for play but will be slow and possibly stacked up on hole one. Do not take that as an invitation to drive the course looking for a place to jump in, please wait your turn on the box and be aware that play will be slow and rounds will take longer than normal.

Group sizes should be limited to 5 players to a group, do not play or hit into another group unless they have signaled you to play through or into them, hitting into groups will not be tolerated and you may be asked to leave. Please repair ball marks on the greens and fill divots on the tee boxes where sand is available. If you have sand containers on your carts and wish to fill fairway divots there is a large box of fairway mix on hole one’s tee right next to the bench note that is for fairway use only, as the mix is different than the tee boxes.

Additional notes the course is open to the entire public every day of the week unless noted on our events page for a course closure, there seems to be a misconception that Tuesdays and Thursdays are ladies and men’s night, that has not been the case for some time, while that was a long standing tradition it was removed to make the course more inviting to everyone every day of the week.

Questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email the board theboardofjesupgolf@gmail.com we will get it addressed.

Womens League Sign Up Deadline Approaching

Want to start by thanking Misty Knutson for taking the reigns and running arguably the best league Jesup has to offer, and follow that up by thanking all the ladies in attendance at tonight’s meeting. Great things coming out of that league and the board loves to see it.

Women's League 2021

It's hard to believe that golf season is upon us, but warmer weather is right around the corner!

Please plan on Tuesday, May 4th @ 5:30pm for a quick meeting to discuss rules, format, and to get your team signed up. At the meeting we will discuss a league start/end date - last year we ran from the first week of June until the start of school - we will likely follow suit this year. I know this is a big part of who is able to play/not play.

We look forward to seeing you all there and feel free to pass this along to others who may be interested.

Kids Day Clinic - Photos

Thank you to all the participants, parents and volunteers who came out on Sunday. The turnout was better than we could have imagined, 40+ young golfers out enjoying and learning the game lets us know that what were doing here is having a great impact on the community and game of golf.

We hope all the participants enjoyed their time and found a love for the game like those of us who spend our time keeping Jesup Golf a great experience.
